Harbour Town is often called the heart of Hilton Head Island. Charming boutiques, featuring clothing, crafts, gifts, art and jewelry, line one side of the harbor. Family-friendly restaurants have views of Calibogue Sound and the harbor. A children's playground, sheltered by massive live oaks, is a perfect spot for the little ones. The Harbour Town Yacht Basin is home to fishing charters, day sailing, dinner cruises, and sightseeing adventures on the water.
South Beach is a New England-style marina and shopping pier, and home to the famed Salty Dog Cafe, another island landmark. Water sports, like parasailing, jet skis, fishing charters, nature tours and kayaking make South Beach a favorite for visitors.
If your interests include the natural wonders of the island or you enjoy history, a visit to the Sea Pines Nature Center is a "must do". You'll see exhibits of turtles, fish, snakes, lizards, even Native American artifacts found in Sea Pines. The Nature Center also offers eco-tours and guided history tours to the Indian Shell Ring and the Stoney-Baynard ruins, remnants of the great antebellum Braddock's Point Plantation, which dates from the mid-18th century. The Center is also headquarters for the Alligator Boat Tours that take you in a jungle safari boat on the fresh water lakes in Sea Pines. You'll get to see the extraordinary wildlife, including the American Alligator in its natural environment. At 5,000 acres, Sea Pines is the largest community on Hilton Head Island. There are five miles of beach, 15 miles of leisure trails, a 600+ acre forest preserve, three daily fee golf courses, and top-ranked tennis facilities, all for you to enjoy from your vacation home or villa.
